Trek the first day down from Dalat to Tuyen Lam lake. The trail is moderate on the first day and goes over Pinhatt Mountain through pine forest and ends at a campsite on the shore of the lake. The second day puts you in the jungle for the whole day as you trek the west side of the lake. This moderate trek involves about 4-5 hours of hiking each day.
The first section of trail is through minority farms and pine forest. We continue to walk through forest paths until we meet the base of Pinhatt. Here you can take a short rest to gain strength for the steep uphill climb (45 minutes) to the summit of Pinhatt.
After lunch we descend and you will notice a very dramatic difference in the flora and fauna. The valley you enter is no longer pine forest, but the jungle that Vietnam is so famous for. You will emerge on the other side, at a campsite where you can relax, take a swim or head out into the lake on one of our kayaks and watch the sun go down.
Start your walk through pine forest near the lake. Soon there is a dramatic change in scenery from pine to thick jungle. Walk the rolling hills among the vines, broad-leaf trees, and enjoy the cool jungle breeze. If you are lucky, you may see a wild orchid in bloom or a troop of wild gibbons. Upon exiting the thick jungle section, you will walk between Elephant Mountain and another area peak. Enjoy seeing the small minority farms that dot the valley floor. After lunch and a rest you continue walking through the valley until you come to a ridgeline, which you follow to the chicken village.

Be a real dirt bag! Spend 2 days in the jungle area to the south of Dalat, and 1 day on either Langbian Mountain or the Tiger Falls areas. Trek up into a remote section of thick jungle to Tuyen Lam Lake. Then around the lake and down through a canyon with stunning waterfalls. A great trip for those looking to get away from the bustle of the city for a few days
The trip starts with a vehicle transfer from your hotel to the trail head (about 18 km south of Dalat). From the trail head we walk across a flat section of rice paddies and small vegetable farms. The trail slowly starts to ascend up into the jungle that blankets the backside of Elephant Mountain.
The trail is narrow single track that meanders up the side of the mountain and crests the ridge, before dropping down to the lake. The campsite for the night is right by the lake. Kayaks are available to head out into the lake and watch the sun go down.
After a short morning boat ride to the trail head, the first section of trail heads through pine forest that fringes the lake. We walk gradually up for about 1 hour before dropping down into a short section of jungle valley. Here you can take a short rest to gain strength for the steep uphill climb (15 minutes) to the summit of Pinhatt Mountain at 1700 meters (awesome views of the lake).
After lunch we descend the steep backside of Pinhatt and walk through more pine forest with a few small farms on the shores of the lake. The flora then turns again into jungle as we drop into Datanla Canyon. In the canyon we pass by several fantastic waterfalls before we meet our vehicle to transfer us to the base of Langbian Mountain where our campsite is on night 2.
(Langbian Option)
The eco-system is completely different with both a higher elevation and more pine forest. We walk up, steeply in sections, to the top of Langbian Mountain (2169 meters). The mountain is crowned with jungle for a short section.
Lunch is had on the slopes of the mountain. After the walk down, our vehicle meets us for a transfer back to Dalat. Time permitting there is a minority village that can be visited.
(Tiger Falls Option)
The first section of trail is through steep sided pine forest trail, dropping down to the LangBian River where you can take a break on the side of the falls and swim if you’d like.
We continue to walk near the shore of the river for about 1½ hours. Here you will spy a few suspension bridges in the distance, and will see the landscape change from pine forest to coffee farms.
From here we walk up to a scenic lookout, where you may want to take pictures of the beautiful valley below, and we stop for a lunch break.
After lunch and a rest on the mountain-top, we pass through the Chil Village for a rare glimpse of the lives of rural minority peoples, their homes, work and culture. The way to see this village is by foot as there is no road access to the village.
Finally, a hike through the rolling hills, with a view of another waterfall and several small vegetable farms, returns you to the trailhead.
